Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-05-24
FinSight is an independent project. We built the app to be useful without knowing who you are. We do not ask for a name, email, password, or payment information, and we do not sell, share, or monetize data about you.
Information we collect
Anonymous device identifier. When you first open the app, your device generates a random identifier (a UUID). This identifier is stored only on your device and sent with API requests so we can associate your portfolio, watchlist, and price alerts with the same device across sessions. It is not linked to your name, email, phone number, or any other identity. Uninstalling the app erases it.
Content you save in the app. Portfolio entries, watchlist tickers, price alerts, and screener settings you create. These are stored on our server keyed by the anonymous identifier above.
Push-notification token. If you create a price alert, the app registers an anonymous push token issued by Expo, Apple (APNs), or Google (FCM). We send price-alert notifications to this token. The token does not identify you.
Diagnostic data (Sentry). The app reports crash stack traces, app version, device model, operating system version, and recent navigation events to Sentry. Your IP address is received transiently and not retained long term. We do not send the contents of your portfolio or any free-text input to Sentry.
Information we do not collect
•
Your name, email address, phone number, or password.
•
Payment or billing information (the app is free).
•
Precise or coarse location.
•
Contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data.
•
Cross-device or cross-app tracking identifiers (Advertising ID, IDFA).
•
Browsing history outside the app.
How we use information
The data above is used only to operate the app: to load your portfolio on return visits, to deliver the price alerts you create, to fetch the market data you request, and to fix crashes. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties. We do not run third-party analytics SDKs (Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.).
Third-party services
To operate the app we rely on the following providers. Each handles only what is necessary for its function:
•
Render (United States) — hosts the API. Receives every API request along with the anonymous device identifier and your IP address (transient).
•
Neon (Frankfurt, EU) — managed PostgreSQL database. Stores your portfolio, watchlist, and alerts, keyed by anonymous device ID.
•
Sentry (United States) — receives crash reports and diagnostic breadcrumbs described above.
•
Yahoo Finance (via the open-source yfinance library) — receives ticker symbols you view so that quote, fundamentals, and chart data can be returned. Yahoo's own privacy policy applies to their endpoint.
•
Reddit — when you open the discussion view for a ticker, public Reddit RSS feeds are queried for that ticker. No account or identity is attached.
•
Expo Push, Apple APNs, Google FCM — deliver price-alert notifications using the anonymous push token described above.
•
Google Play Services (Android) — Google Play handles app distribution and may collect data per its own policies independent of FinSight.
Data retention
Portfolio entries, watchlist items, and price alerts are retained until you uninstall the app, clear app data, or request deletion. Sentry diagnostic events are retained for 90 days by default per Sentry's standard plan.
Your choices and rights
Because we do not collect identifying information, the simplest way to delete all of your data from our system is to uninstall the app or clear its storage. This erases the anonymous identifier on your device. Without the identifier, the portfolio and alerts on our server become unreachable and are subject to routine cleanup.
If you want us to delete the server-side records before that, email us at support@tryfinsight.app with the anonymous device identifier shown in the app's Settings screen. We will delete the matching records within 30 days.
Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California, and other jurisdictions with comparable laws have rights of access, correction, deletion, and portability. Because we do not collect identifying information, exercising these rights requires you to provide the anonymous identifier so we can locate the relevant records.
Children
FinSight is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used the app, email support@tryfinsight.app and we will remove any associated records.
International users
The API runs on servers in the United States (Render) and the EU (Neon Frankfurt). By using the app, you understand that the data described above may be processed in those regions.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be announced in-app on next launch.
